Mapix sponsored University of Edinburgh team prepare for 2019 Formula Student race

Posted on July 12, 2019 in

Formula Student is Europe’s most established educational engineering competition. It tasks university student teams from around the world to design, built, test and race a small-scale formula style racing car.

As Platinum Sponsors of the Edinburgh University Formula Student team, Mapix technologies assists the team activities through mentoring, technical insight and financial support.

Over the last few years, the team has gone from strength to strength, with over 300 students involved this year and many technical innovations being made.

A strong year

Last year was a triumphant one for the team. Along with finishing the highest they ever had in the manual Formula Student competition, the team developed an autonomous car that placed first in the Formula Student – Artificial Intelligence (FS-AI) 2018 DDT Class. This recognition means the team currently has the best autonomous software package of any university in the country. Looking ahead, the team hopes to capitalise on last year’s design and address issues.

Looking ahead

This year EUFS’s largest team ever is travelling to Silverstone on the 17th of July to compete in Formula Student. The team are entering two cars; car one will go through a number of static and dynamic events, such as tilt, brake and noise testing, sprint and endurance. The AI team will also enter a car into static and dynamic events such as acceleration and track drive.

With the advancements made by the team throughout the year and the assistance from Mapix, we are confident the team will once again return home with a prize. Aside from the competition, EUFS will be presenting talks at Formula Student on their engineering design and business acumen.

As the team prepare for the event, we wish them the best of luck for the competition ahead!
